Patrick Conoley

Pat Conoley sadly passed away earlier this year.

Pat was the tutor in Wood Sculpture for many years and before that he tutored a course in Stone Carving when we were still at our previous venue of St Peter’s School.  He was an extremely gifted carver both in wood and stone and much of his work can be found at a wide variety of locations throughout the UK.  Examples can be found at such places as Magdalen College, Oxford (where he worked for eleven years), Christchurch College, Blenheim Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and Cheltenham Public Library and Pump Rooms.  A large Portland Stone figure of St.Francis and Wolf can be located at a church near Los Angeles.

At Summer School, he was a popular tutor with a loyal following and his course was always one of the first to fill up. Pat tutored the Stone Carving class from 1984 - 87 and then tutored the Wood Sculpture class from 1988 until 2007, a total of 24 Summer Schools!

Pat was always a loyal and keen supporter of the Summer School  -  we shall miss him.

Please see below for some works by Pat.

The Gloucester City Museum will be hosting a special exhibition of some of Pat's wonderful work from 5th November until 12th December 2011.  Don't miss it!!

My wife and I were invited to the preview evening on Friday 4th November and we were amazed to see so many of Pat's carvings and sculptures on display  -  over 100 items.  This is highly recommended.

The Citizen 29.07.10 - The Owls this for art and crafts

CRAFTY adults are marked an anniversary year of one of Gloucester's 'best kept secret'. More than 150 people are learning skills such as botanical art, calligraphy, life drawing, at Beaufort School.

Gloucestershire’s Arts and Crafts Summer School is in full swing at the tuffley school with classes running from 9.30am to 4:30pm daily.

Jill Webb, one of the organisers, said: "It's marvellous; it really is Gloucester's best kept secret. “We have got around 150 adults here learning some amazing things and it seems that no-one really knows about. This is the 30th anniversary as well, which makes it extra special. There is so much going on, there are some really useful skills to be learnt."

Each class lasts a week and people can take away their creations at the end of the week. For more information people can visit www.gloucesterartsandcrafts.co.uk
